PURE23/X5003 • Alan D. Oldham • Beyond DJAX. (CD)

Pure Sonik Records (and its home listening division xfive.) returns with a new album designed as a companion piece to Alan D. Oldham's SOLD-OUT Amsterdam gallery show back in September-October 2010, attended by DJ Bone, Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Shinedoe, Ritzi Lee, DJ Kammy, and other techno world notables, as well as visitors from Berlin, Dresden, and London. Not only are there eight sublime tracks of unreleased Oldham minimal soul (played as a soundtrack to the opening) , the Detroit-born polymath has also illustrated and fully designed the CD jacket and disc as well!

You know Alan's comic-inspired artwork from such legendary techno labels as Djax-Up-Beats, Transmat, Astralwerks, Third Ear and many other electronic imprints. This is the first Pure Sonik release where Oldham has done full music and artwork! The digipak also includes photos from the Outland Gallery show for those who couldn't attend in person.

"Emerging" is the filmic intro piece, setting the tone. Oldham has used it all over the world to introduce his live sets as DJ T-1000.

"Theme From Vectra" is the cinematic theme song for Oldham's sci-fi superheroine of the same name.

"Twitter Attack" was inspired by the popular social media site, complete with background whispers, a.k.a. "twitters."

"How Was Your Trip To Berlin?" continues the set, a cool, house-inspired soundtrack to your Transatlantic journeys (hopefully first class!).

The Detroit-infused track "Minimal Soul" makes its Pure Sonik debut after its release on the Swiss Minimalsoul label back in 2009 as part of the "Vintage Synth Technique" compilation.

"Sound Within Sound" was created after the passing of Alan's grandmother, an uncharacteristically deep outing for the producer. Listen closely and you'll hear two tracks in one, hence the name.

"Track For Ron Murphy" was also informed by the passing of a loved one, namely Detroit's irreplaceable, irrepressible record cutter and Oldham's close friend.

"Black Man From The Future" is another filmic, sci-fi-informed piece, and a fitting coda to the album.

PURE19 • DJ T-1000 • Blaster (12")

CHICAGO--Following up the more-experimental "Johnny Gambit 01: The Prodigal Son" graphic novel/soundtrack (PURE18LP), Alan D. Oldham a.k.a. DJ T-1000 gets back to basics with the "Blaster" EP, phase two of the Pure Sonik Records restart. "Blaster" kicks off the proceedings. A dirty, tracky, and bitcrushed statement of intent, "Blaster" is a 130 bpm love letter to all the hard techno fans in Germany and Spain who have kept the faith and supported DJ T-1000's international dates all these years, and the definitive statement that Pure Sonik Records is back! On the B-side, Oldham goes ELECTRO with "I Rock Shit Everyday," a dark, dirty, Detroit electro-groove inspired by one of his all-time favorite Detroit electro acts, Ultradyne. The EP closer, the lo-fi "Machines," is the sound of your laptop, TV, and coffee maker conspiring against you in dial-up modem code. What happens when your microwave starts thinking it can cook better than you? You better watch out...

All tracks pre-mastered by Steven Tang of Emphasis Recordings, Chicago!

This and all Pure Sonik Records kept to a strict pressing of 200.

Next up: The 20th Pure Sonik release: DJ T-1000 "Time Bubble" EP. Black to the Future.

PURE18LP • DJ T-1000 • Johnny Gambit 01: The Prodigal Son (LP)

CHICAGO--After a seven-year layoff during which massive changes in recording and distribution rocked the music industry, Detroit-born, Chicago based techno label PURE SONIK RECORDS is getting back into the arena! Our first new project: JOHNNY GAMBIT 01: THE PRODIGAL SON ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK.

Back in 1987, a young Alan D. Oldham (the future DJ T-1000) produced his first widely-released indie comic book, called JOHNNY GAMBIT. At the same time, Oldham's childhood friend, Derrick May, was producing his first twelve-inch record, "Nude Photo," on his Transmat label (for which Alan did the artwork). Why not put the comics inside the records, asked May. From that basic idea, two legends were born.

JOHNNY GAMBIT the comic book was featured in the first-ever article about Detroit Techno in London's The Face magazine (1987). The article, titled "Seventh City Techno," was named after Gambit's fictional city. Years later, future minimal legend Dan Bell, inspired by Oldham's comics, asked if he could use the Seventh City name for his own label, and Oldham himself segued into the techno business, eventually touring, producing and releasing under the psuedonym DJ T-1000 for Tresor, Submerge, Inzec and his own Generator and Pure Sonik Records labels as well as doing artwork for Djax, Astralwerks, +8, New Religion, Seventh Sign, Digital Soul and many other labels.

Cut to 2009 and the talented Oldham's gone back to his roots as an illustrator, as well as a Detroit Techno producer, creating a graphic novel, full-color label art, and the accompanying soundtrack!

JOHNNY GAMBIT 01: THE PRODIGAL SON is the first of four issues written, illustrated and soundtracked by ALAN D. OLDHAM with cover colors by ANDREW KUDELKA.

This vinyl collector's version of the JOHNNY GAMBIT SOUNDTRACK features eight tracks, like the old-school LPs. But don't worry, each side is less than 15 minutes for the hottest cut possible (pre-mastered by Steven Tang of Emphasis Recordings)! Limited to only 200.
